Historical context: Emanuel Prull, sometimes referred to as Emanuel Pryl (October 27, 1896 Prague – February 28, 1980 Prague) was a Czech academic painter and graphic artist, ex libris author and athlete - swimmer. After returning from the First World War, he became an officer in the Czechoslovak army. He worked in the Military Geographical Institute and in the Art Workshops of the MNO Resistance Memorial (since 1930 the National Liberation Memorial) in Vitkov. During the protectorate, he was a member of the resistance organization Druzhstvo in the first sequence, which published the illegal magazine "V boj" or "Into Battle". He also worked for the Radiotelegraphic Group ON - East, which provided the intelligence radio connection of the illegal military organization Defense of the Nation with the Soviet Union. After the Gestapo broke up this radiotelegraph group in the fall of 1941, Emanuel Prull was arrested, sentenced to death, and deported to the Mauthausen concentration camp in early February 1942. He survived his imprisonment and returned to liberated Czechoslovakia after the end of the Second World War. From February 6, 1954, he was registered as an associate of the State Security (StB) in the category "Agent" under the codename Eman. In addition to portrait work, he became famous during the war as a painter of stage scenes and promotional posters for theater performances, concerts and other cultural events. Later he devoted himself to free artistic creation. He was heavily inspired by French Impressionism (Wiki). The extermination of Lidice (June 9 and 10) was a violent historical event in which the central Bohemian village of Lidice was destroyed and a significant part of its inhabitants murdered by German Nazi occupiers. After the successful assassination of Reinhard Heydrich by Czechoslovak paratroopers in 1942, the village of Lidice was burned and razed to the ground as a result of the heydrichiad, and the entire local population was executed or sent to concentration camps. The total number of victims reached 340 (192 men, 60 women and 88 children). The event is commemorated today by the Lidice Memorial and Museum (Wiki).
