The medal “For the Defense of the Caucasus” was established on May 1, 1944.All participants in the defense of the Caucasus were awarded - military personnel and civilians who took part in the defense.The USSR medal “For the Defense of the Caucasus” was made of brass in the shape of a circle with a diameter of 32 mm. The obverse depicts Elbrus, at its foot there are oil derricks and a group of tanks. There are airplanes above the mountain peaks. In the upper part along the circumference there is the inscription “FOR THE DEFENSE OF THE CAUCASUS”. The border is made in the form of an image of bunches of grapes and flowers, in the upper part of which there is a five-pointed star, in the lower part there is a ribbon with the letters “USSR” and an image of a hammer and sickle between them. On the reverse there is the inscription “FOR OUR SOVIET MOTHERLAND” above the inscription there is an image of a hammer and sickle.Using an eyelet and a ring, the medal is suspended from a pentagonal block covered with an olive-colored moiré ribbon 24 mm wide. In the middle of the tape there are two white stripes 2 mm wide, separated by an olive stripe of the same width. On the sides of the tape there are blue stripes, each 2.5 mm wide.
