Description: Historic US civil war map fragment of North Carolina and parts of South carolina- used by General Sherman or his staff. Inscribed in pencil on back. Extraordinarily rare Linen backed parchment It's fascinating to look at the handwritten railroad tracks sketched on the route of Sherman's advance North from Atlanta. This is probably a repurposed coastal survey map which lacked the interior details needed for the march. Visible area 9.75 x 9 inches / overall dimensions 14.375 by 13.875. Former Kennedy galleries, New York Professional framing job uses glass to reveal the pencil inscription on verso. Condition: good; the map itself shows signs of usage as one would expect. There are pencil markings on it and there are fold lines and fading along those fold lines. The frame itself has a few nicks but the glass is intact and not cracked. The gallery label on the back has begun to deteriorate but it still has the gallery name and inventory number still visible. Shipping: map will be professionally packed and shipped within three business days following payment, tracked and insured. We are unable to deliver to PO boxes for this item.
