The Monon Railroad (originally the Chicago, Indianapolis and Louisville Railroad) operated from 1848 until its operations were merged into the CSX Systems in 1971. Since it operated almost entirely within the boundaries of the state of Indiana, the Monon became known as "The Hoosier Line". The Monon offered passenger service beginning in 1947 until the last runs in 1967. The passenger service included a stable of trains operating between Chicago & Indianapolis, Chicago and Louisville, Chicago and Bloomington, and, in partnership with the Pennsylvania Railroad, between Chicago and French Lick. The trains included "The Hoosier", "The Daylight Limited', "The Midnight Special" and "The Night Express".
