Description: This listing is for “Untitled (Miners), 1962” by Hector Martinez Arteche (Mexican, 1934-2011) pictured above. About this work: A wonderful, early painting by renowned Mexican muralist Hector Martinez Arteche (1934-2011). This work depicts the dramatic descent of a group of miners into a tunnel. The scene is dark, illuminated only by the lamps attached to the helmets of the two figures in the foreground. Arteche lines up the figures like marching soldiers, underscoring the dangers of working in the mines. He was also a follower of Frida Kahlo, who frequently visited his workshop, which he opened with José Chávez Morado, Héctor Cruz, and Héctor Anaya. The work is oil on canvas and is signed/inscribed in the lower right “Hector Martinez Arteche Cananea, Son. 1962”. It is housed in an appropriate floating frame.
