I have seen a few John K Thurston paintings over the last decade or so and when you look at the auction records, there are a fair amount that have come to market. With that in mind, it always amazes me that there is not a thorough biography about the artist. In fact, other than his birth and death dates and the fact that he worked along the coast of Massachusetts are about all I have been able to find about the artist. This is a wonderful painting of Gloucester harbor from some time around the early to mid 20th Century. A watercolor and gouache on paper with the image measuring 11 3/4 x 8 3/4 inches. Signed lower left. Painting is in wonderful as painted condition. No signs of fading or any issues at all. Really a beautiful work.
