Description: ORIGINAL US INFANTRY CAP INSIGNIA ADOPTED WITH A NEW UNIFORM FOR THE ARMY IN 1872. It was used on the forage cap and the full dress cap. It is the same pattern as the one used throughout the Civil War, only it's of a smaller size. In 1876 the Infantry changed the insignia to a pair of crossed rifles. This pattern bugle insignia was continued in use by the Field &Band Musicians. Stamped brass. 2-1/8" wide by 1-13/16" high. Two brass wires soldered to back. Excellent unused condition!
