The coverage area extends from the Black Sea to the Arctic Ocean, east to the Urals. Longitude is measured from Washington and Greenwich. Details include wagon roads, steam railroads, canals, cities, towns, battle fields, and natural features, with hundreds of place names. Among the named places and features are Warsaw, Smolensk, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Caspian Sea, Åbo (Turku), Lake Ladoga, Volga River, Helsingfors (Helsinki), Pinsk, Ekaterinburg, Novogorod, Orenburg, Perm, and the submarine telegraph line from Varna to Balaklava, in the Crimea.
