Description: This is an original Brush Pottery Formal Pig cookie jar. (The company was called Brush-McCoy until 1925.) Research indicates that the Formal Pig was produced in the 1950s. The jar is in very good condition. There is a tiny place on the hat that at first seems to be a small gouge in the pottery, but appears to be a factory imperfection since the glaze and green paint are still intact. Likewise there is a small gouge under the jar which seems to be a factory imperfection rather than a chip because again the glaze and color are intact. There are a few other minor factory imperfections. The jar is beautifully painted in rich greens with burgundy, black, and brown accents. Like many of the Brush jars, the glaze is crazed all over, but since the crazing is fine and not discolored, it is not very noticeable. All of the paint has survived because it is under the glaze, and the jar has an overall nice glossy appearance. It makes an outstanding display piece. Approximately 11.5" high, the jar is marked W-7 Brush USA. The W indicates that the Formal Pig jar was designed by Ross and Don Winton. (Don Winton sculpted the Grammy Award, Bob's Big Boy, medium-sized Emmy Award, and many other notable works.) From a non-smoking and pet-free home.
