Description: This is original artwork of Ferrari driver Jean Behra driving his Ferrari Dino 246 in the 1959 Monaco F1 Grand Prix. The artwork was created by the internationally acclaimed, automotive artist illustrator, Argentinian-born, Hector Luis Bergandi. Jean Behra was one the leading official Ferrari factory drivers in 1959 along with Collins, Frere, Gendebien, Hawthorn, Phil Hill, Munaron, Musso, Seidel and Von Trips. Jean Behra is one of the story lines in the new Enzo “Ferrari” movie starring Adam Driver and Penelope Cruz. Jean Behra was known as a temperamental, fearless race car and motorcycle driver with a near uncontrollable temper. He drove for several racing teams throughout his racing career and survived 12 crashes. In 1959, Behra drove for Ferrari in his Ferrari Dino 246 in several races including French, Monaco, Dutch and British Grand Prix’s. He teamed with Dan Durney in the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans, driving the Ferrari 250 TR. Unfortunately, they did not finish due to engine trouble. Behra’s racing career with Ferrari came to an abrupt end. He pursued a confrontation with the Ferrari team manager who accused Behra of over stressing the engine during the 24 Hours of Le Mans and at the French Grand Prix in 1959. Behra punched the team manager and was dismissed from the Ferrari team. About a month later, Jean Behra was killed in a violent crash driving a Porsche RSK Spyder at Avus, Germany. The artist, Hector Luis Bergandi, illustrated the Ferrari Piloti starting with the 1947 stable of official Ferrari drivers. Bergandi's interpretation of each Pilot is both compelling and expressive, capturing the true racing challenges of each driver and the Ferrari race car they drove. Provenance & Content Validation: My agency, Hank Forssberg Inc. Advertising handled the Advertising and Marketing for Ferrari North America from 1977 through 1995. During that 18-year relationship with Ferrari North America and Ferrari S.p.A., I accumulated an extensive collection of hundreds of Ferrari collectibles/memorabilia from Ferrari North America and from the Factory in Maranello, Italy. I personally recommended to Ferrari North America Management that they launch the introduction of the 348 Spider in Beverly Hills, California by closing off Rodeo Drive and having the first ever Ferrari Concours d’Elegance on Rodeo Drive as the highlight of the 348 Spider Introduction. My agency designed and produced all of the marketing and advertising materials for the 348 Spider Introduction including the Poster, Letterhead and Envelopes, Invitations, Event Program, Parking Passes, Windshield ID’s, VIP Wrist Bands, 348 Spider Spec. Sheets, Etc. During my 18-year relationship with Ferrari, I was also the Editor of Rosso Ferrari Magazine. During my tenure, I edited and published 9 Issues from 1990 through 1993 including Issue number Eight – Ferrari Rodeo Drive. As the Editor of Rosso Ferrari Magazine, I commissioned internationally acclaimed, automotive artist/illustrator, Argentinian-born, Hector Luis Bergandi to create Ferrari Car Art Illustrations to be featured in Rosso Ferrari Issues. As a result of my relationship with Mr. Bergandi, I also commissioned him to design a poster for the 348 Spider Rodeo Drive Introduction.
