N.Y. artist Biography Painter, Printer Hans Alexander Mueller 'Hans Mueller': A German/American painter, woodcut and linocut artist, Hans Alexander Mueller (sometimes spelt, Muller) studied printmaking techniques at the Academy of Graphic Arts, Leipzig. At the end of the First World War (1918) he assumed teaching responsibilities there in the disciplines of engraving and woodcutting. Around 1935 Hans A. Mueller moved to America. During the following years he was commissioned to create many fine woodcuts, wood engravings and linocuts. As well, Hans Alexander Mueller illustrated such classic novels as Stevenson's Treasure Island and Kidnapped, Don Quixote, by Cervantes, and several works by Joseph Conrad. In 1939 his book, Woodcuts and Wood Engravings: How I Make Them, was published in New York. As well, Hans Alexander Mueller was the teacher and mentor of Lynd Ward (1905-1985), one of America's greatest masters of the wood engraving. ***************************** We opened our eBay gallery in 1999.
