Description: Large-format finely engraved hand colored original antique map: Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island &c. It was compiled by J. Hugh Johnson, F.R.G.S., engraved at Stanford's Geographical Establishment, and published by Archibald Fullarton & Company, London, in 1872. The image area measures a generous 40.7 x 52.5 cm [16" x 20¾"], relief is shown pictorially, and the shorelines are colored with a delicate blue wash. The legend key identifies railroads, and the map labels fishing areas off the coasts of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, including the Bank of St. Pierre, Sable Island Bank, and the Great Bank of Newfoundland, with the "Whale Deep." Other named places and features include Cape Breton Island, Bay of Fundy, Northumberland, Halifax Harbor, Fortune Bay, Anticosti Island, Shelburne, Liverpool, St. Johns, Charlotte Town, Yarmouth, Antigonish, Bay of Exploits, Windsor, Signory of Mingan, Gulf of St. Lawrence, Magdalen Islands, Cornwallis, Miramichi Bay, and Fredericton. Condition: This map is in very good condition, bright and clean, with a vertical fold, as issued, and no marks, rips, or tears. It is printed on a heavy paper and is blank on the back, with no printing on the reverse side. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions. It is an original authentic antique map, not a reproduction or modern reprint, and it is fully guaranteed to be genuine. Buy with confidence!
