Description: An ORIGINAL 2 3/8" WIDTH "B PLANE" CUTTING IRON AND CHIP BREAKER for a No. 4 1/2, 6 or 7 size "B" plane by the Birmingham Plane Manufacturing Company, Birmingham, Connecticut. In addition to the "B Plane" mark, this iron is marked with the date of the October 22, 1889 U.S. Patent of George Mosher under which the planes of the B Plane series were produced. Birmingham introduced the "B Plane" series at the time of the expiration of the Leonard Bailey Patents when those features became part of the public domain, but added this patent of their own.
