Description: Organdie Vernonware 2 Luncheon Plates 9 5/8" Plaid Brown Trim 1937-1945 Vernon A beautiful Vernon Kilns ORGANDIE Vernonware SET of 2 LUNCHEON PLATES 9 5/8" Diameter from the Plaid Collection made in Vernon, California USA, Circa 1937-1945 Description: Artist Gale Turnbull designed the first plaids which were produced on the Montecito shapes and later the streamline shape was used for selected pieces. The plaid stripes were applied by hand. The hand painted finished product was accomplished by placing the pieces on a decorating wheel and using a wet paint brush held to the turning piece to blend the stripes. Lastly, the vivid rim color was applied to create their unique look matching the color of the middle stripe. Since these are hand painted, subtle differences are evident and add to their character and uniqueness. The color palette used is brown & yellow stripes on ivory w/deep brown trim. Check our eBay store for more items in the Organdie pattern. Condition: While these luncheon plates are classified as used, their condition is superb. There are very minor, short utensil marks that are visible when the plates are turned at just the right angle in bright light. There are no rubbings, chips, nicks, hairlines, or repairs to these very usable pieces. There is no paint wear. Dimensions: The luncheon plates have a diameter of 9 5/8" and a height of 7/8". History/Marks: The beautiful collectible California pottery Plaid Patterns were produced by Vernon Kilns after Faye Bennison acquired Poxon Pottery and China Company in 1931. The first Plaid Pattern, Organdie, was manufactured starting in 1937 and the other patterns such as Homespun, Gingham, and Tam O'Shanter were introduced in 1948. All of the Plaid Patterns continued until Vernon Kilns was acquired (including the molds & patterns) by Metlox Pottery in 1958. Metlox continued the Vernon factory for two years manufacturing under "Vernonware by Metlox". All of the Vernonware we have listed was before the acquisition by Metlox Pottery. This Vernon Kilns mark is cited as mark #19 in Nelson's Collectible Vernon Kilns 2nd edition as used in the 1930's-early 1940's time period. Organdie was produced in the 1937-1958 time period. So, the circa on these is 1937-1945. Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description. The stand was used as a photo prop and is not part of this listing.
