Covers are heavily scuffed with superficial scratches. Significant edgewear, corners bumped and frayed. Cloth at spine is particularly worn, frayed, and split. HInges loose but holding. Sewing of the textblock is tight with no loose pages, except p. 11-12 is torn and loose. Front flyleaf has an inked inscription dated 1905. Spine is split at title page and frontis plate is loose. Color illustrations (see photo of listing) are all clean and present but 2 are detached and loose. Numerous smaller line drawings at chapter heads and mixed in text. Text paper is lightly tanned but clean, no markings, a few fingerprint smudges noted.7.25" x 9.5" 112 p. This is an early career book by Robert Chambers (1865-1933), a prolific American fiction writer of novels and short stories. Although there are many surviving books by Chambers, his children's books numbered only about a half dozen and this title is rare. The charming illustrations are all present and clean although several are detached.
