I also participated in writing many ASME B89 dimensional metrology standards. I purchased this item a number of years ago with the intent of opening my own calibration laboratory someday. I performed a “functional test” only of the Omni-Cal-4A as follows:1.) As a calibrator providing precise mV voltage outputs fed to a HP 3457A multimeter (see photos)NOTE: The “E” displayed to the far right in the display, is an annunciator for emf (millivolts), according to the Operator’s Manual (pages 1-1 and 6-2).2.) As a thermometer providing direct °F or °C readout of a connected K type thermocouple. Readings were taken at ambient temperature.NOTE: The Hewlett-Packard 3457A multimeter shown in the photographs is not included with this sale and does not have a current calibration/certification.NOTE: I do not have the necessary standards (as listed in the operator’s manual) to perform a NIST tracable calibration of the Omni-Cal. Direct millivoltmeter measurements and settable direct reading calibration voltage outputs are provided without reference junction compensation.Front panel displays are presented on large 0.31” (8 mm) high, LEDs. The decimal point is positioned automatically, and the minus (-) polarity sign is displayed for any negative value; the plus (+) polarity sign is understood for any positive value. The digital display is actually 7 positions; five decade positions are available for the 4-1/2 digit value; the decimal point is incorporated to the right within one of the positions; the polarity sign (when appropriate) is always positioned to the far left; the symbol F, C, E is displayed to the far right, as annunciators for Fahrenheit, Celcius, or emf (millivolts), respectively.Error messages of HIGH, LO, OPEN, or ERROR are respectively displayed when the temperature is above full scale, the temperature is below full-scale, an open thermocouple is detected (or less than 101 mV), or when a voltage greater than 101 mV is applied to the input terminals.
