Description: Old, circa 1880's painting on artist board of a gazebo on a small bluff above a pond, lake or river suggested in the foreground, unsigned, 18" by 10" (21" by 13" framed). The talented artist did not apply their name to the work, which really shows some nice handling of light and composition. There is light soiling consistent with the great age. Original frame is crumbling and will need to be replaced. A note on the reverse dates to 1997, and seems to refer to the work's being used in present-day art instruction. An 1879 label for the Russell's Canvas Board remains.
