Description: Ohio enacted its first sales tax in 1935. Back then, merchants were required to buy paper receipts from the state and give them to customers as proof of their sales tax payment. Buyers were encouraged to collect these receipts and give them to schools or charities. These organizations could submit these receipts to the state and collect 3% of the total face value. These receipts have variable rough edges due to the individual action of being torn from a book of stamps at the time merchandise was purchased. The Ohio prepaid tax stamp and the sales tax stamp essentially served the same purpose but were used in slightly different ways: Prepaid Sales Tax Stamp: Merchants purchased these stamps from the state before making any sales FREE SHIPPING: Your stamps will be mailed via a regular USPS stamped letter without a tracking number.
