This document lays out the rules for organizing companies, which required 32 or more persons to be mustered into service, within the New York Volunteer Militia, at the beginning of the war. The process of application, enrollment, furnishing is described along with minors being disqualified without the “written consent of his parent, guardian or master” and standards of discipline including the barring of “intoxicating liquor” in barracks.The document has light wear, discoloration, and creasing. It is fold-creased in thirds and has some other very light creases. Most of the staining, discoloration is on the back side which is blank. The printed text is in excellent shape.
