Description: Hi,See new message in italics at the bottom of this listing for new information My Ref-A-a Description-One Interesting Postcard with some very unique postmarks. I believe this postcard was possibly lost for over 16 years. It has some very strange postmarks on it, First let me tell you about the actual postcard itself. This postcard was manufactured around 1930-1932 using a printer to copy a real photo. Though many sellers will list these as a RPPC, many are not. A simple look under a digital microscope will show whether or not you have a RPPC or not. A RPPC will not be comprised of little dots (pixels). This technology is similar to todays inkjets. None-the-less, it looks very much like a real photo. You know what you are getting when you purchase from my store. Enough about the tech and onto the postcard. This postcard shows a New York Central Class J1b locomotive delivered in September of 1927. This particular one has 5231 on the cab which helps with its identification. Now, just because it had New York Central on it doesn't mean it only stays in N.Y. This locomotive traveled across the United States using the transcontinental railroad. Now onto where this postcard has traveled from and to where. It was original sent from Los Angeles and the first postmark is dated September 25, 1932. Los Angeles also happens to be the postcard publishers location. The next postmark is from the Railway Mail Service marked "TR532" and Detroit & St Louis dated October 30, 1932 and that is stamps over the one from Los Angeles (the postmarks to the far left of the stamp) The next postmark is the same duplicate Railway Mail Service mark over the stamp dated the same. A very unique postmark is the one on the photo side of the postcard. You can clearly see the Detroit (Det) & St. Louis TR 532 stamp. I think this was done as an extra way to document the trip. You can also see the RPO portion of the postmark. That's the Railway Post Office. Ok, now lets look at the strange part of these postmarks. I blew them up and studied them in every which way. There are two of them. Both are over or under the letter side of the postcard masked by the black Railway Mail Service stamps. They are both red and dated.....December 16, 1948! The TR # in each postmark indicates what train # it was. There is no database that I could find that can indicate what train it was. The red postmark has TR75 in both marks. Did this mail get lost in transit? It wasn't uncommon for mail to get lost? Yes and the postal service will try to deliver it.Now for the last strange thing about this postcard. If it was mailed and first posted on September 25, 1932, then why does the person who wrote this letter date is 09/25/33? I just think poor Ada made a mistake!Ok, there you go! This is an interesting postcard in many ways. I am sure some postal sleuth will be able to solve the mystery. My scans are in high resolution so you can blow up the photos and look at the postmarks yourself. If you know what happened and can solve the mystery, please drop me a line!!! I use a top of the line Epson ES-580W Scanner to grab the best possible image of any postcard or photo. I will ship this anywhere for $3.99. It will come in a brand new BCW Semi-Rigid Sleeve mailed in a rigid photo mailer. I do not attempt to profit on shipping. I merely try to break even. I do offer shipping options on check-out. The best thing about my packaging? Each envelope or package is easy to open!!! How many times have you received a package only to spend ten minutes trying to open it without destroying the contents!!! No extra tape, glue, staples, or my worst fear, items shoved between two pieces of cardboard with tape on every edge requiring a surgeons scalpel to open it!!! This will be the first of thousands of Postcards I will be listing over the next few months. I just wanted to put a few notes about my postcard listings after the description so the collector can understand the types I will be listing.I will keep the listings simple and will only put a message if I deem it worthwhile. This is a new store for me but I have been on Ebay for over 26 years with perfect feedback. Look in my store for many other great collectables. Please contact me first with any issues. Thanks for looking.
