Description: Vintage Unusual Cast Brass Heavy Figural Squirrel Nutcracker For Your Nutcracker or Squirrel Related Collection-SquirrelNutCracker2 Details Description: This is very unusual and interesting heavy cast brass figural nutcracker. This nutcracker is in the form of a squirrel standing on a tree branch eating with both hands. The body of the squirrel arched over the branch with his head and hands above the branch represents the spot where a nut would be introduced to be cracked. The handles of the cracker are the tree branch ending in a hinge or pivot just past the squirrel. The cracker has a rounded opening below the head of the squirrel with a flat portion opposite the head on the other handle where the nut would fit within. Very nice and interesting nutcracker, which in our opinion is not that well cast. The hinge is intact and works by opening the two handles and separating the branches and placing the nut between the squirrel's head and the flat base below it then squeezing the handles together thus cracking the nut. Very nice! The nutcracker has a pivot or a hinge at one end with has a pin that appears to be made of copper. The squirrel is cast in a fashion to show its general shape but does not show details of its face. Be that as it may, this is a nice piece worthy of a spot in your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: Uncertain but most likely mid to late 1900s (mid to late 20th century). Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in southeastern Pennsylvania. Size: The piece measures ~5 1/8" long, is ~1 1/4" at its widest, and ~1 7/8" at its highest point. The piece weighs almost 8 ounces. Maker: Unknown. Marks: Unmarked. Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Just a very interesting and unusual cast brass nutcracker to add to your collection. Condition: The nutcracker is very good condition with no breaks or repairs. The piece has several minor surface scratches, some spots of residue from brass cleaner, some spots of oxidation, and a few minor stained spots. The hinge is intact and works the way it should. Although it is our opinion that the piece is not that well cast it still works and looks good. It is all original but could possibly be cleaned to bring it to its original brass look but we leave that to the discretion of the new owner. Please see photo for additional condition information.
