Description: For sale is An ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE painted wooden MORTAR & PESTLE likely 1800s or earlier in rare to find ox blood red color. Very primitive body shape with thick wall. The color is mellow and rich, something that is only possible to be obtained with great age. The mortar is beautifully turned with many rings around its whole body. The pestle is well used with amazing patina. Such a heavy built piece was possibly used in a 19th century apothecary. This rare find in excellent condition. There are some minor short fissures near the lip, but hardly noticeable. For a heavily used mortar, this one is in the best quality category. Please check the photos for detailed condition.
