Description: NGC VF - VERY FINE Roman AE of Salonina AD 253 - 268 Salonina Augusta, the consort and wife of Emperor Gallienus, governed alongside him during his reign over Rome from AD 253 to 268. Tragically, both met their demise at the siege of Mediolanum (Milan). Devotees of the philosopher Plotinus, they advocated for the establishment of a philosopher's city in close proximity to Rome. Following Gallienus's death, Salonina's sons, Valerian II and Saloninus, assumed the imperial mantle in succession.
