Description: Civil War Store Card for Hussey's Special Message Post in New York City Fuld NY630AK-1a (copper) R-1 Choice UNC George Hussey founded his delivery service for papers, documents, and small goods in 1854. By the 1860's, his staff included up to 40 messengers. In 1861, a new federal law forced most private mail services out of business and established the U.S. Post Office as the only mail delivery service. Mr. Hussey's business and one other business were judged to be more than just mail delivery businesses and not in direct competition with the post office. These two businesses were allowed to remain in operation. There are two copper tokens that circulated for this merchant during the Civil War and this is the more common variety. The condition of this token is not common. It is a high quality uncirculated specimen. The obverse exhibit attractive silvery toning with hints of soft blue-violet color in protected areas of the design. The reverse retains much of the original red color. It is an attractive token.Shipping is free. Should this token fail to meet your expectations, it can be returned within 30 days for a full refund. Sales tax, if applicable, is collected by Ebay and submitted directly to state authorities. We appreciate your business!
