Issued for the opening of Francis Leggett & Co food warehouse. Francis Leggett Co. was the largest supermarket and food distributor located in New York City. There warehouse located at 13th Ave, between 27th and 28th Streets was the largest building built in Manhattan up to that time spanning over an entire city block. Located around it were all of the major rail road companies and shipping lines that serviced the City. Those noted on the map are: the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad Company (DL&WRR), the Lehigh Valley Railroad, the Bristol City Line shipping company, the New York Central Railroad, the Atlas Line, the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad (B&O) and the Erie Railroad. The artists attention to detail is wonderful. The steam ships, locomotives, paddle-boats, mechanized vehicles and horse pulled carriages are all are clearly visible and give the viewer a splendid idea of what life in Manhattan was like at the turn of the century.
