Description: New USB 3.0 External LG WH14NS40 14X Blu-ray drive flashed to 1.02 firmware. This USB 3.0 External Blu-ray drive, which currently ships from LG with non-UHD compatible 1.04 firmware, has been flashed by myself to an older version of the LG firmware (1.02) which allows the drive to read UHD/ 4K Blu-ray discs. Each flashed 1.02 drive has then been tested to work with both standard Blu-ray and UHD / 4K Blu-ray discs prior to shipping. Do not update the firmware on the drive, as you will return it to a non-UHD friendly state. This drive is flashed with proper WH14NS40 1.02 firmware, whereas other sellers are flashing firmware from WH16NS40 drives, which may not be compatible in all situations. See image 6 for reference. This drive will burn Blu-ray discs at speeds up to 14X. This external drive will work with both PCs and Macs. The drive is installed in a silver external aluminum enclosure manufactured by OWC. All original packaging, documents, and power / data cables are included. The enclosure is rated USB 3.0 and comes with an included cable that can be attached to any standard USB (Type A) port on a desktop PC, laptop PC, or Macintosh. It has the typical wall wart power supply for power. You may need to purchase a USB Type B 3.0 to USB Type C cable separately if your laptop does not have a standard USB Type A port. If you need help with this, I will send you an Amazon link for a quality cable. This external drive will allow you to read 4K / UHD Blu-ray discs- but ONLY if you have the rest of the necessary hardware and software. There are other hardware and software requirements for playing/accessing/backing up UHD / 4K / Blu-ray discs. Windows 10 will not access or play 4K / UHD / Blu-ray discs without installing additional software. This external drive is only one part of the chain. You are responsible for satisfying all of those other software and hardware requirements to achieve playback or backup. I have had success with all movies using these external drives- but I cannot guarantee every movie will play or be rippable with these drives.
