Description: So from the ashes of the iconic, enigmatic Joy Division comes the equally great, though fundamentally distinct, band we know and love called New Order. One would think that, after the rash of crap that the former had taken for naming themselves after the (oddly quaint-sounding) departmental moniker for the prostitution ring of the Nazi regime, the new iteration would have steered clear of such controversy, but no--"New Order" it was, with the same fascist etymology, but with the added implication of an unstoppable force in the face of certain, almost inevitable, doom. Few bands fully survive the departure of their lead singer with any real relevance to speak of. (Ever listen to the work that the Doors put out post Jim Morrison, or that of the Velvet Underground after Lou Reed? No, me neither.) But this was a new band altogether, one that would develop its own unique sound and aesthetic, while retaining their essential punk roots and workmanlike integrity. New Order flat-out refuses to do encores. That's our show. Deal with it. Famously, the band had insisted on marketing strategies that virtually guaranteed that their record company would not profit (look it up: despite being the best-selling single of all time in the UK, "Blue Monday" actually lost money due of its intricate jacket design). So we love them for all that, but we love them more for the music. And if you've ever seen them, then you're fully aware of how dedicated and professional they are despite their utter lack of pretense and "prima donna-dom." So long as the beer is waiting backstage, they're good. You enjoyed the show, in its entirety, now let the band blow off some steam and enjoy a cold one. They deserve it, don't they? Promo tee for Technique: flawless, with the great graphic and a cozy, comfy fit, at a price that none us us could balk at. As one critic quipped, the band "may have made better records, but none of them defines them, sounds so quintessentially like what they were always reaching for, quite as well as Technique." Well said. Technically dope, even.
