Product Description: This offering is for a new-old-stock Shimano UniGlide (UG) 30T cassette sprocket without a built-in spacer. These golden brown sprockets are made from a hardened steel and likely Exage models. They have the traditional (and uniform) UniGlide spline pattern for mounting purposes and will be compatible with 5, 6, 7, or 8 speed UniGlide cassettes. This interchangeability is a welcome feature among Shimano new-old-stock drivetrain parts, especially given the dwindling supply of UniGlide related components in today's market. These UniGlide sprockets are index (or as Shimano used to call it, "SIS") shifting capable and are best suited for a UniGlide cassette freehub body (that is identified with its uniform spline pattern and visible threads at the end/edge of the hub body). Please also recognize the tooth profiles on these sprockets. You will see the beveling of most of the teeth, as well as the slight "twist" of these same teeth...as is common on UniGlide sprockets to aid in chain transfer from one sprocket to another. These cassette sprockets are not compatible with vintage threaded rear hubs (designed for freewheels). Although, they will slide over a newer HyperGlide cassette freehub body. As alluded to above, the UniGlide cassette freehub body has uniform splines and the HyperGlide equivalent does not (because the latter sprockets need to be aligned in a certain manner to function properly). In spite of these technical differences, Shimano still elected to design their HyperGlide spline pattern such that UniGlide sprockets will slide over a HyperGlide cassette freehub body. Now it should be noted that even though UniGlide sprockets will mount on a HyperGlide freehub body, the advanced HyperGlide shifting technologies (most notably the shift ramp technologies) that help improve shifting performance are lost when there is a mixing and matching of UniGlide and HyperGlide sprockets on the same cassette. The mix-n-match cassette will still function, but not as efficiently as the purely HyperGlide cassette with all HyperGlide sprockets properly aligned for optimal shifting performance. As for condition, these UniGlide sprockets are new and unused. They were bulk packed, so expect some shopwear (scuffs and scratches in the golden brown finish), but we see no signs of mounting or chain wear from use. Listing Update...I am also noting the golden brown finish can be kind of "blotchy" in some areas. The factory finish is still smooth to the touch, so I don't believe there is any corrosion or weathering, but it's just not as clean/nice as I would like. I understand this cosmetic observation has no impact on function, but I still wanted to mention it. Follow-up...I am discounting this one particular 30T offering in the brown finish, because the finish is more like a "dirty" brown with a bit more shopwear then our other stocks. I usually sell these taller (30T) sprockets for $29.99, but this one will sell for a modest discount due to the cosmetic condition of the finish.
