New-Old-Stock Black Mundialita Saddle with Faux Suede Cover

Product Description: This offering is for a new-old-stock Mundialita saddle in a black faux suede cover (with almost a velour-like feel to it). The underside of the saddle shell provides very little information (other than "Made in Italy" markings), but the overall design/styling reminds me a little of the the more popular Selle Italia Turbo saddle from the late 80's and early 90's. As a result, my best guess is these saddles are from the same era and a vintage "copycat" model to the Turbo saddle. Some additional specs/details include the following... Dimensions (Length x Width): 272 mm x 146 mm (with the latter measured from the widest point...near the back of the saddle) Weight: 404 grams (per our digital postal scale) Rail material: chromoly steel Rail width: 45 mm (see discussion that follows regarding rail width) Production date: Not available (refer to discussion above) Production locale: Made in Italy We've also noted this saddle includes some high-density foam padding that falls somewhere in between ultra-light (and hard) racing saddles and more comfortable touring saddles. The relatively heavy saddle weight may give some indication there is a respectable amount of padding wrapped under the saddle cover (although, the steel rails also contribute to the relatively high weight). Another observation is the saddle shell appears to be made from a molded (and fairly thick/heavy) hard plastic and the cover is glued to the underside of this shell with staples reinforcing selected areas. This results in a snug/tight cover fit that shows no signs of failure (meaning the adhesive still appears to be in good shape and the staples still appear firmly anchored to the shell). I guess to summarize...these saddles appear fairly well made and have a vintage look to them. If I have a concern about them, it's the velour-like cover...as I am guessing it will "mark" fairly easily. Our remaining quantities show fairly well...with some marks/blemishes in the covers...but nothing significant that cuts into or punctures through the cover material. I'd still prefer a vintage Turbo saddle over this model, but at a much lower price-point (relative to a true nos Turbo saddle from the same era)...maybe this saddle is worth a look to folks on a modest budget for a particular project. Listing Update...I have begun updating the pictures to reflect the next saddle that will sell/ship. To this end, this saddle shows fairly well, but I do see a light rub mark in the cover material at the rear...where some of the velour-like material as thin out (leaving a semi-bare spot). This is the worst of the cover blemishes. Although, I also want to mention the velour-like cover just does not lay down in the same direction. I wouldn't go so far as to say the cover is "matted", because the cover material is not really long enough to get matted, but it still does not all lay down in one direction. You can see this in the pictures and just want to be clear this is not lighting...there really is some variability to the black cover appearance. A note about rail width... We have always assumed saddle rail widths were relatively standard...44 mm for a standard road/mtb saddle and 30 mm for a track saddle (center-to-center measurements). However, we are beginning to understand there is some variability concerning saddle rail widths that we would have expected to measure 44 mm. The variations are not significant...maybe +/- 3 mm from the 44 mm expected width...and we realize there is some flex to saddle rails...but the variations may still make installation a chore at times. For this reason, we are now providing a center-to-center rail width measurement on our saddles.
