New Hampshire Nashua Manufacturing Co. 1850s Antique Engraving Print & Article

Description: Rare original antique engraving print from an 1850s illustrated journal. It depicts the burning of the Mill #1 Manufacturing Company building in Nashua New Hampshire. Above it is an article on the subject. In 1835 the town was the third largest city of New Hampshire after Dover and Portsmouth, and the Nashua Manufacturing Company opened their own bank, called the Nashua Bank. The Nashua Manufacturing Company built 48 houses or tenements and two churches to be able to hire enough workers to man the machinery in its complex.Above the Nashua picture is a half page image and article on the Second Battle of Rivas between Costa Rican militia under General Mora and the Nicaraguan forces of William Walker. The lesser known First Battle of Rivas took place on the 29 June 1855 between Walker's forces and the forces of the Chamorro government of Nicaragua. The print is very large (folio size), measuring approximately 11 x 15 inches (28 x 38 cm). The picture fills about half of it, measuring about 9x6.5 inches, with a caption below it. The page is in excellent condition for its age. There is text/photos on the back of the print. See scan for an accurate view of the condition. This print will come with a Certificate of Authenticity.
