A treble booster actually does a low cut and a mid boost, so you can cut out the extra frequencies and boost them until they drive your amp enough. Therefore, the low range is not saturated, and even though it has a thick fuzz-like distortion that is typical of germanium, the sound does not get crushed even when you play a chord. The TONE control is a 3-way switch just like the 1952 Broadcaster (the ancestor of the Telecaster), allowing you to change the sound as if you were switching the pickup position on a real guitar.
