Description: Nepenthes Coccinea is a one of the famed Victorian hybrids created in the USA by the British botanist James Taplin in the late 1800s. It is composed of (Nepenthes rafflesiana x Nepenthes ampullaria) x Nepenthes mirabilis. Coccinea is very hardy and medium-fast-growing for a Nepenthes. It has the potential to get very big, and that's why we sell it in a larger container. This listing is for a well-established plant that is producing pitchers (see the photos). Plants are growing in quality 8 inch hanging baskets. Soil is a mix of sphagnum moss, peat, and perlite. Replanting to a larger pot will not be necessary for at least two to three years, depending on your growing conditions. Get yourself an adult plant instead of a little starter plant! Pictures are representative of the plants for sale. Our supply of Coccinea is more limited than our other varieties because they take longer and are more difficult to propagate. Important Note: All of our plants are propagated using only natural techniques. Our plants do not come in bulk from Tissue Culture labs. Tissue Culture uses harsh chemicals that can result in a higher chance of receiving a plant with mutations. We are TC Free. Care: Nepenthes grow best outdoors but can also grow adequately indoors. Intermittent sun and shade throughout the day is best, but they can handle almost full sun. Temperature tolerance ranges from low 40s F to upper 90s F. Bring indoors at night when temperatures will drop much below 45 F. Plants usually develop purple spots on the leaves during the summer heat; this is normal. If your tap water is not very "hard", it should be fine. If in doubt, stick to rain water or reverse osmosis/distilled. Nepenthes do best if allowed to dry out mostly before watering again. Water thoroughly until some water is running out the bottom of the hanging basket. Please allow possible 2 day handling time if it has just rained and we need to let your plant dry out some before shipping. But we will ship as fast as possible. USA sales only.
