Description: This is a beautiful hanging wall tapestry that is UNMARKED but appears to be named "The Departure of the Fleet". The Bayeux Tapestry also known as Queen Mathilde's Tapestry is a replica excerp of a famous eleventh century embroidered piece that belonged to Queen Mathilde, wife of William the Conqueror. It features a scene from the voyage to the Battle of Hastings. This was where William the Conqueror sailed from Normandy to capture England. Here we see the crew on boats crossing the English Channel, with a colorful medieval display on the sails and boats. Animals and mythical creatures are seen on the bottom border to decorate the work. It is framed with a stunning navy and beige floral border. The tapestry is backed with lining and has loops at the top for easy hanging. It is large and measures approximately 32 inches wide by 37 inches long (loops included in length measurements). There are 4 loops that are approximately 3 1/4 inches long by 2 3/4 inches wide. The piece is in good pre-owned condition. It could use a good cleaning. The front looks good with only a couple of minor spots (see top of mast near the flag-close up provided near the end of the photos). The back, however, has what appears to be light stains through out as well as some additional spotting. Please see last five photos for close up examples of these areas. Please review and enlarge all photos for additional details ,views and measurements. Shipped via USPS Priority Mail.
