Description: Instructions et Arrêtés du Préfet de la Haute-Saone. Bound volume for 1809. Hardcover, contains 52 issues plus index. Text in French. The length of the issues varies: most are 8 pages but could be as long as 16 pages. Therefore, the book contains approximately 400 pages. The title of these publications translates to "Instructions and Decrees of the Prefect of Haute-Saone." They are historically valuable documents showing day-to-day governance in Napoleonic France. In fact, 1809 was a watershed year for Napoleonic France, in which the country became known as the French Empire for the first time. Many of the edicts contained in these publications were issued directly by Napoleon himself -- see photos! Condition: The publications were circulated individually before being bound together, so there is occasional soiling, staining, and foxing. The front and back pages of No. 33 (August 16, 1809) have the upper right-hand corner torn off (shown in last two photos). The binding remains tight and the paper remains supple and easily read. Haute-Saone is a department in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of northeastern France.
