Her career began by selling at county fairs, and creating portraits of those willing to pay just a few dollars to have their likeness crafted with paint upon canvas. By the end of her life, some of her original paintings were selling for $200,000 or more. She was very well educated and came from a seriously accomplished family. With a career spanning many decades, she found great success. She was also a humanitarian whom did not advertise her extreme philanthropy. The artist built and funded an orphanage in southern Kenya. I have been very near the facility she created. My own work was in Ougies, Kenya, very the artist's orphanage. The viewer may know that in addition to the many paintings of the Amish people, the artist painted many portraits of the young and old of Kenya. The Masai are a beautiful people who live within a protected area dedicated to the preservation of their culture. Her work included many of the Masai in their day to day lives, almost equal to her work among the Amish. Shipping: I will package this piece with great care.
