Octavo (23cm). Green cloth titled in gilt on spine; plain endpapers; x,183,[1],32pp; 32pp publisher's catalogue at rear; photographic halftone illustrations. Inscribed to Frances R. Sandry [?] by the author, October 1921, on front free endpaper. Sound and tight but rubbed with numerous stains to cloth, internally clean and largely unopened: Very Good. Sir Lionel Phillips was a South African Randlord who was involved in the failed Jameson Raid, an attempt led by several British South African mining magnates and financiers others to stoke a British insurrection in the Transvaal, with the intention of taking it over. Florence Phillips' memoir was written "as a record for my children of the part played by their father in the Reform movement," which she described as a "good cause" (vii). See MENDELSSOHN II p.164.
