Description: Bassoon No. 150 Orchestra Model For sale is a Moosmann Bassoon Orchestra Model 150 European version, S/N 89016, manufactured in 1989.I am finally selling off my collection of exotic and somewhat unique orchestral wind instruments, including an early Landell thin wall flute, a Loree BG series English Horn and this Moosmann bassoon. If you are looking at this listing you probably already know something about bassoons, but I will provide the details just the same. The Moosmann Model 150 was, and still is, manufactured using curly mountain maplewood from Bosnia and is stained mahogany with a Lacquer finish. It features 26 keys, including the High D, and 9rollers, all of which are made of German silver and are Silver plated (except the rollers). (German silver is not silver, it is a much stronger metal alloy used for strength, and then silver plated for beauty and resistance to corrosion.)All finger holes have hard rubber tube liners which protrude inside the bore. This is important as the intonation of Moosmann bassoons do not change with time and usage.Included are 2 Moosmann “Excellent” bocals, a G1and a G2. The G series bocals are brass with silver plating and have not been reshaped. The post for the “crutch” is in place, but as I don’t have the Moosmann crutch, I am not including an aftermarket part. Finally, this bassoon comes with its original Moosmann case, in good shape. (I would probably get a gig bag, like the Marcus Bonna,as these cases are not light weight.)Study the pictures carefully, as this instrument was manufactured in 1989 and has enjoyed 35 years of professional usage with the small dings to prove it. The mechanism is in excellent functional shape, all rollers move freely, the bell ring is not cracked, and the finish is not particularly worn in any one spot. However, there is one noticeable flaw in the finish, where the lacquer finish has raised from the wood. Study the picture carefully,it looks like the wood might be rotted, but that is not the case. This spot doesn’t affect function, but if you’re expecting a new instrument look, this bassoon is not for you.The pads are worn, but quite serviceable, I would not anticipate any major service in the near future. The tenons and bocal corks have somewhat hardened, but also do not need service.NOTE: the whisper key pad is missing, which is a very common occurrence. As you will see, I usually fix this by using white gaff (duct) tape, works great, and lasts longer than a new pad. There are no cracks in the body of this instrument. So much for looks. The tone is excellent, robust when pushed and quite sweet when allowed to sing. Intonation is predictable and consistent between both bocals, and very stable even when using a dramatic vibrato.Response is of course up to you and your reeds, but that being said, all octaves respond quickly and with full bodied tone. This quality bassoon would be ideal for a mature student or young professional and very well could be your final instrument. Although my asking price is not insignificant, this is an aspirational musical instrument, and will save you $thousands$ off a new Model 150. All this plus a 30 day return policy and free shipping. Thank you for considering the bassoon.
