USAF 1st FW, 27th FS Fightin' Eagles, #03-4042, Langley AFB, VA, May 12th 2005. Dimensions are approximately: 7 ½’’ / 19cm length; 5 1/3’’ / 13.5cm width, 4 ¼’’ / 11cm height to the highest stand when situated on the stand. Good overall condition, some parts may need re-gluing however there is no obvious damage to the structures. Amercom 1:100 Aircraft of the World ACSL40. Designed to meet a US Air Force requirement for an Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF) to replace the F-15 Eagle, the F-22 was first flown on September 29th, 1990. The USAF's ATF program aimed to produce a fifth-generation air superiority fighter that would be better matched against emerging new aircraft such as the Su-27 Flanker. The F-22 uses stealth technology and can function in air superiority, ground attack, intelligence, and electronic warfare roles. Despite its capabilities, the F-22 program was relatively short-lived; by 2010 its high cost coupled with the development of the F-35 (a more versatile and less expensive aircraft) led to a cessation of F-22 production funding. (026873) -Grumman F-14 tomcat 112 diecast model aeroplane. Dimensions are approximately: 77 ½’’ / 19cm length; 4 ¾’’ / 12cm width; 3 ½’’ / 9cm height to the highest stand when situated on the stand. Good overall condition, some parts may need re-gluing however there is no obvious damage to the structures. (026874) -The Aviation Archive English Electric Lightning XS921 'M' model aeroplane Believed to be part of the 'The Tigers' aerobatic team. Dimensions are approximately 9'' / 23cm length; 5 3/4'' / 14.5cm width; 6 1/4'' / 16cm height to the highest stand when situated on the stand. Good overall condition, some parts may need re-gluing however there is no obvious damage to the structures. The English Electric Lightning was the RAF’s first truly supersonic fighter aircraft. It was very distinctive, with highly swept, shoulder-mounted wings and a slab-sided fuselage due to its two engines being fitted one above the other. In June 1967, on three successive days, all thirteen single-seat aircraft were flown out to Tengah under the banner of Operation “Hydraulic”, staging through Akrotiri, Cyprus, Masirah, Oman and Gan in the Indian Ocean. These were XR768-773, XS893, XS895-897, XS920-921 and XS927, coded ‘A’ to ‘N’ in order, excluding ‘I’. Good overall condition, some parts may need re-gluing however there is no obvious damage to the structures. Avro Vulcan XM598 was selected for use in ‘Operation Corporate’ on the 29th March 1982. Work was immediately undertaken at RAF Waddington to bring the aircraft up to the correct standard and remove any squadron markings of identification. XM598 arrived on Ascension Island on the 29th April. The first surprise attack on the island was scheduled for the night of the 30th April. XM598 was scheduled to be the lead aircraft loaded with twenty one 1,000lb bombs. Shortly after its departure the aircraft ran into a problem. It was unable to fully pressurize its flight deck due to a rubber seal on the "Direct Vision" side window had perished and was forced to turn back and was withdrawn shortly afterwards. (026876) -GEMINI ACES - NORTH AMERICAN - P51-B MUSTANG CACCIA BOMBARDIERE DING HAO MOJOR JAMES H. HOWARD CO. 356th FS 354th FG USAAF NINTH AIR FORCE 1943 - US AIR FORCE. 1 / 72 scale. Dimensions are approximately 5 ½’’ / 14cm length; 6 ¼’’ / 16cm width; 4’’ / 10cm height to the highest stand when situated on the stand. Good overall condition, however a part under the left wing is missing (see photos) and the front nose and propellor need re-gluing. 11 January 1944: Major James Howell Howard, Air Corps, United States Army, commander of the 356th Fighter Squadron, 354th Fighter Group, Ninth Air Force, led fifty P-51 Mustangs escorting three divisions of B-17 Flying Fortresses on a raid against Oschersleben, near Berlin, Germany. As defending Luftwaffe fighters attacked the bomber formation, Major Howard immediately went on the offensive and shot down a twin engine Messerschmitt Bf 110 Zerstörer long range fighter. During this engagement, Howard became separated from his group, but climbed back to rejoin the bombers. More than thirty German fighters were attacking the bomber formation and Major Howard single-handedly went after them. He shot down two, probably shot down two more and damaged at least another two. He continued to attack even after he had run out of ammunition and was low on fuel. When he returned to his base at RAF Boxted, his Mustang had just a single bullet hole. For this action, James H. Howard was awarded the Medal of Honor, presented by Lieutenant General Carl Spaatz 11 January 1945. He is the only fighter pilot in the European Theater to have received this Medal. Howard was promoted to the rank of colonel. (026877) -Amercom F-15A Eagle model aeroplane. USA 1985 MdConnell Douglas. 1:100. Good overall condition, some parts may need re-gluing however there is no obvious damage to the structures. Potentially missing the wheels as there is an empty wheel-shaped space on the bottom but doesn’t have the original box so unsure as to if it did originally come with wheels! First flown in April, 1939, the A6M Zero-Sen was the Allies’ main opponent in the Pacific and the most famous symbol of Japanese air power during World War II. This carrier-based fighter, designed with a low-monoplane wing and armed with a formidable array of two 20mm cannons and two 7.7mm machine guns, proved capable of handling any of the Allies’ aircraft. It wasn’t until the Allies studied a captured Zero that they were able to identify and exploit weaknesses such as minimal pilot and fuel tank protection. Zeros became infamous for Kamikaze attacks, in which pilots would intentionally crash explosion-laden aircraft into Allied ships. (026881) -Gemini Aces GALFT3003 Messerschmitt Bf 109F-2 WWII German Aeroplane. Dimensions are approximately 5’’ / 12.5cm length; 5 ½’’ / 14cm width; 2’’ / 5cm height. Good overall condition, some parts may need re-gluing however there is no obvious damage to the structures. Designed to meet a Luftwaffe need for a single-seat fighter/interceptor, the Messerschmitt Bf 109 was first flown on May 28th, 1935. Its all-metal construction, closed canopy and retractable gear made the Bf 109 one of the first true modern fighters of WWII. This versatile aircraft served in many roles and was the most produced aircraft of the war and the backbone of the Luftwaffe, and was flown by Germany's top three aces, who claimed a total of 928 victories between them. Armed with two cannons and two machine guns, the Bf 109's design underwent constant revisions, which allowed it to remain competitive until the end of the war.
