It allows you to focus from infinity to, at least, 10 times life-size (10X)!! It consists of a Minolta Auto Rokkor Bellows 100mm f4.0 lens, a Minolta Auto-Bellows I, and 2X tele-converter -- and MUCH MORE!!! This 100mm f4.0 AUTO Bellows Rokkor lens has a Minolta lens mount, and will fit and function perfectly on any manual-focusing Minolta SLR (from the first SR-2 to the last X-370), as well as many other SLRs from Seagull, Phoenix, Kalimar, Soligor, Vivitar -- that have a Minolta SR lens mount. It will also work on any Minolta MAXXUM film camera with an appropriate adapter -- NOT INCLUDED. It will also work on Minolta or Sony DIGITAL DSLR cameras with an appropriate adapter -- NOT INCLUDED. It will also work on many other DIGITAL cameras with removable lenses (Canon, Nikon, etc.) with an appropriate adapter -- NOT INCLUDED. Here are the details: LENS – the legendary Minolta Auto Bellows Rokkor 100mm f4.0 lens. That's right – legendary. Because it has an AUTO-diaphragm in a BELLOWS LENS!!! Unlike most bellows lenses, this allows the lens to stay wide open until the instant of the exposure -- when used on this AUTO Bellows I. Just one of its features is that it focuses from infinity to 1:1.1 (life-size) WITHOUT an extension tube or additional, screw-in macro filter. But don't think of this lens as only a macro. The 100mm focal length can be used for general, all-around use – with clear, sharp images throughout the entire focusing range. Even on the bellows, this lens will focus to infinity. Here are the detailed specs: FOCAL LENGTH: 100mm f-STOPS: 4-32 PERIOD: 1966-1972 INSCRIPTION: MINOLTA LENS MADE IN JAPAN AUTO BELLOWS ROKKOR 1:4 f=100mm DESIGN: 3/3 FILTER: 55 DIAPHRAGM: auto MC: no MD: no CLOSE FOCUS: -- SIZE: 2.5"x1.4" WEIGHT: 5.9oz. Depending on your setup (see below) and the amount of extension that you have available, you can easily use this lens from infinity to 1:1 (life size) to 10 times life size -- or higher! The f4.0 maximum aperture produces a bright image on the ground glass or in the viewfinder -- for EASY focusing, but like all lenses, it is best to stop down to about f8 during the exposure for the best possible resolution. You might want to stop down even more to get more depth of field -- which is pretty darn thin at high magnifications. This lens has been used -- but I checked it out for cleanliness and complete operation. It is in great cosmetic shape -- and works like new. See photos. The coloring of the numbers and letters is bright and clear. The glass is like new -- no dust, fungus, separation, scratches, etc. Please examine the pictures for more detail. Basically no signs of use on the exterior. The f-stop ring turns like new. No oil on the diaphragm. The detents are perfect and snap into place easily. BELLOWS -- This Auto Bellows I was a star -- when first introduced. It's claim to prominence was the fact that it was an automatic aperture bellows. All the bellows from other manufacturers, at the time, were manual aperture bellows which meant that as you stopped down the lens, the lens diaphraghm stopped down -- and the image became darker and darker. This was a significant problem with a bellows since the bellows (naturally) substantially reduced the light in the viewfinder -- even at maximum aperture. The result was very dark viewfinders, out-of-focus pictures, and incorrect TTL meter readings. The solution, of course, was the Auto-Bellows I. With this bellows, the lens stays at maximum aperture until the very moment of exposure. While the auto-aperture was convenient, the setup lacked any connection to the meter in the camera, so the metered reading needed to be taken in stop-down mode. While this was a drawback from the TTL metering system, it was no different from the typical bellows systems at the time -- and with aperture-priority automatic exposure control, correct exposure is very easy. Unlike many bellows units, which have one focusing rail, the Auto Bellows I uses dual rails for extra stability. The right-hand rail has markings for the amount of extension -- in millimeters. These are simply used to determine the amount of exposure compensation that is needed -- when a NON-TTL camera is being used. Minolta added an exposure compensation scale on the left-hand side of this Bellows -- in f-stops -- for easy use with 50-58mm lenses -- see photos. Minolta made several accessories for this bellows -- slide/film copier, focusing rail, and macro stand. They are NOT INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION, but are easy to find -- if you want them. The bellows is in perfect shape. The bellows is light-tight, and the focusing is not too loose. There is a locking clamp to secure the focusing. The auto-diaphragm action works correctly. 2X TELE-CONVERTER -- This is a JC Penny, auto-diaphragm, 2X converter. It fully coated, has MC (meter-coupling), MD capability (for the XD and X-700 cameras), automatic diaphragm control, and can be used with any other lenses that you have. If you use the 2X converter with the Auto Bellows, it's best to attach the 2X converter BEHIND the bellows – which DOUBLES the extension -- for maximum magnification. This will give you enormous magnification up to 10X!!! It is in like great condition and comes with its own front & rear lens caps. See photos. Also included is a copy of the user manual on a CD, an 8" cable release for your camera (to prevent camera movement), and a polarizing filter to remove glare (very important in macro photography). The last photos show everything put together with a manual-focus Seagull 35mm camera (NOT INCLUDED) and an auto-focus Maxxum a-mount camera (NOT INCLUDED).
