Metal data plate as safety wired to strut body marked simply with following:ASSEM. 551200-1S/N 624086ACUST. No. (LEFT BLANK - NOT STAMPED)CYLINDER ACCUMULATORPACIFIC DIVISIONBENDIX AVIATION CORP.NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CALIF.It's a beefy hydraulic accumulator - measuring about 36" length and about 3 inches. Weight is appx. 15 pounds. Original application notes it was rated for 3000 PSI rated hydraulic system. I recall seeing long accumulators like these in the North American Aviation F-86 "Sabre" series jets. Internally, this is an O ring system. This carries displacement volume capacity of 200 cubic inches. This one is still safety wired together. I see no visible damage. We'd removed this one from Lockheed PV-2D N7251C, where the former owner had used it as a replacement to the 8" hydraulic Houdeaille type ball accumulators. This long O ring system was ultimately easier to maintain in the field and being an O ring system it was easier to repair quickly if there was a hydraulic issue. This accumulator was removed from an aircraft that still had a lot of residual 5606 hydraulic fluid in the system, albeit damaged an inoperative for at least 30 years. I suspect with a disassembly, inspection and new O rings it'd ready for duty once again. Nice admonishment placard for servicing and adding pressure.
