Bits larger than 3/16-Inch have 3 flats on the shank so that the drill chuck gets a better grip on the bit. These are premium milled and polished fluted bits with a center spur and 2 shoulder cutting spurs. The center spur starts the hole and keeps the drill from walking. The shoulder spurs carve a very clean, not torn or splintered, hole. Brad point bits will cut up , down or at an angle and with a drill depth stop, can be used to cut holes for doweling.
