Description: This kiln fused abstract dichroic stained glass mezuzah case was handmade by us, Lawrence and Audrey Goldsmith. Many people purchase them for their home and for wedding and housewarming gifts. We have them in our home and have given many to friends and family for special gifts. The case is signed and dated on the back. It is approximately 6 inches high and approximately 1 3/4 inches wide at its widest points and can hold a scroll approximately 4 1/2 inches long. A scroll (Klaf in Hebrew) is not included with the case.We designed and made this by carefully cutting, overlaying, and kiln fusing many pieces of dichroic glass over black stained glass in a multiple step process. We slumped (melted the glass over a form that we constructed) at approximately 1400 degrees and annealed (slowly cooled) the mezuzah case for over 12 hours. Dichroic glass is a very beautiful and expensive specialty glass. It has a brilliant jewel-like and iridescent quality and the colors may look different when seen from different angles or in different lighting. Insured shipping is free and we try to ship within one business day. We do not ship late Friday afternoon or Saturday. We have carefully embedded solid copper wire into it in the fusing process, so it can be easily and safely hung with screws or tacks. Screwing or nailing through the loop in the wire avoids contact with the glass. Copper tacks and steel screws are included and either one works for most doorways. A mezuzah case is made to hold a small piece of parchment, hand written by a skilled religious scribe, with the Biblical passages Deuteronomy 6:4-9 and 11:13-21. The parchment is rolled up in the mezuzah case and affixed by Jewish households to their door frames in conformity with Jewish law and as a sign of faith. Please note that we have tried our best to provide an accurate photograph; however, stained glass can appear differently in different light. The enlarged photograph on your monitor sometimes tends to accentuate texture and reflections and show minor flaws that may not be noticed at its actual size.We work together on art glass, do individual fine art, and are long-term members of Ohio Designer Craftsmen. We work from our home studio and have been showing our work at craft galleries and museum shops for over 35 years. If you have any questions please email us and refer to mezuzah #M116. Thank you.
