Description: This listing is for a mid-century piece from the MERRITT ISLAND POTTERY of MERRITT ISLAND Florida. Melvin Casper, who did most of the potting at the works created all kinds of ceramics... many a little more commercial or functional and others that seemed to be just art. They were always unique though and on the rare occasions I find one, it's always a pleasure. I haven't seriously determined its function of this piece .... small bud vase or even a pen holder or inkwell.. Most likely though it was just for fun... a squat cylinder with a tiny neck at top. As frequently, drippy browns dominate with creamy colors on the flat top and around the bottom. On areas around the base the glaze drip didn't find, the natural red color of the clay abounds. On the top there are glaze firing bubbles and a couple of more significant burst firing glaze blisters. 3-1/4" in diameter and about the same height. Marked on the base.
