The tri-color cover is printed on 80# card stock, protected with a vinyl sheet. Text for the 8.5" x 11" booklet is printed on 60# opaque paper. The 1883 history of Menominee County included the history of Dickinson County, since Dickinson was part of Menominee County until 1891. We have also included those portions of the WPA book that pertain to Dickinson. Among the subjects included are: Stories of early settlers, including Joe Bart, a negro/Indian fur trader and Chappieu, agent for the American Fur Company, William Farnsworth and Charles Brush, rivals of Chappieu; the early Green Bay settlement; John G. Kittson and his descendants; Marinette, daughter of a Menominee chief, and her descendants; Andrew Eveland; John Quimby and the Kirby House; Indian Sketches; Eleazer S. Ingalls' recollections of early days in the county and its organization; Early officials; Anson Bangs; transportation improvements; Schools; Mills; the Great Woods Fire; Iron mines; the village of Menominee (including a drawing of the town) --Old settlers, Newspapers, Churches, Benevolent Societies, Banks and Businesses, Railroads and Steamboats, Farms-- Quinnesec, Hermansville, Iron Mountain and Norway; and other interesting bits of history and trivia.
