Alexander Girard is widely known for his contributions in the field of American textile design, particularly through his work for Herman Miller (1952 to 1973), where he created fabrics for the designs of George Nelson and Charles & Ray Eames. His work also includes designing the Herman Miller Showplace: T&O (Textiles and Objects) in 1961. In 1961, Herman Miller and Alexander Girard opened the Textiles & Objects Shop in New York, selling the preeminent designer’s exuberant fabrics and a handpicked selection of folk art. The store closed in 1963.
