The waterpot by Breger is one of Sweden's truly design classics of the 50s. Made by the legendary Gustavsberg factory. This was in production for only a few years due to the fumes from the glue used in manufacturing. This design is often attributed to Stig Lindberg, but it was in fact designed by Carl-Arne Breger. A very nice sculptural & functional design that rarely comes up!Carl-Arne Breger was a prominent Swedish designer and industrial designer, born on August 29, 1923 in Trelleborg and died on January 15, 2009 in Malmö. He is best known for his design work in plastics and sanitary wares. Breger completed his education at Konstfack in Stockholm during the years 1943-1948.After completing his education, he was employed in 1953 as a pattern designer at Gustavsberg's porcelain factory, where he collaborated with design master Stig Lindberg. After some time, he switched to focusing on the design of sanitary wares and plastic objects. Carl-Arne Breger's most famous plastic product is a sculptural watering can in styrene plastic. This water jug is an outstanding example of his innovative and functional design style. The pitcher was first introduced in February 1959 and came in three different colors: black, red and off-white. The water jug stands out through its stylized and modern shape that creates a visual balance between simplicity and elegance. It has a striking geometric design with clean lines and clear contours. The sculptural and organic shape of the handle and the spout give the jug a unique character that makes it both a functional and aesthetically pleasing product. The great attention the water jug has received is not only due to its design, but also to the technical challenges that Breger and his team faced during the manufacturing process. Unfortunately, the jug was only produced for a short time due to problems with the gluing of its parts, which resulted in the release of dangerous gases. Despite the short production period, the "Breger Jug" has become a sought-after collector's item and a symbolic example of the modernist design that characterized the 1950s.Buy with confidence - check my feedback!
