Description: Matt Sesow original small art - "Junkie" Matt created small works because he said he'd rather an art lover have something original that was affordable than have a cheap print. The artwork is in Matt Sesow's colorful, dynamic, contemporary style. 3 3/4" x 4 5/8" mixed on matboard. Mailed with cardboard. I ran a small gallery of self-taught/outsider artists for many years and was fortunate enough to work with Matt Sesow during that time. He is based near where my family lived so I was able to meet him and pick up art in person when I traveled to the area. (More info on Matt further below.) This artwork came directly from Matt and has been stored since. It is in like-new condition. The artwork is non-refundable so please message me with any questions. More about Matt Sesow: Matt started his art career by making some art on a lark, so to speak. Encouraged by other artists he made more art and one of them enthusiastically sold it for him at a nearby flea market (while he hid behind a tree, mortified). Eventually, his work came to the attention of a gallery that specialized in "outsider art" and his career took off. He took control of his art career early on since he preferred to not be known as an outsider artist (and it didn't really apply). Matt shared with me his belief that a childhood traumatic accident with a plane propeller, more than anything else, put him on the path as an artist -- he is known for his unique ability to capture and express the anxieties people experience in life. These insights unfolded after growing up watching people from the side because kids (and adults) were wary or awkward with him given his damaged arm. Matt is a prolific artist who has had shows around the world. He has created murals in downtown DC and theater set pieces. His art is in several museums, most notably the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum in Williamsburg, Virginia and the American Visionary Museum in Baltimore, Maryland. In 2013, the United Nations Postal Administration released six new stamps focusing on artists with disabilities including Matt Sesow. (Other artists were Chuck Close, Josephine King, Sargy Mann, Pete Eckert, and a group photograph of the China Disabled People’s Performing Art Troupe.). Thank you for looking!
