Description: SS Mathew Brady WW II Liberty Ship cover pictorially postmarked Febuary 28, 2021 at Lincoln, NE. This merchant cargo vessel is one of a large group of Liberty Ships named for Americans. She was launched on May 18, 1943 by Permanente Metals in Richmond, CA. Blue printed cachet #2112 of the famous photographer by Alvin Eckert, #9964 USCS. Cover franked with 29 cent merchant marine stamp # 2559h and two 21 cent Uncle Sam's Hats stamps. SS Mathew Brady: this proud vessel transported vital supplies to US and Allied Forces during WW II. She survived the war and was recycled for scrap metal in 1960. Mathew Brady (1822-1896) a New York photographer studied under inventor Samuel Morse and learned to capture images on glass plates using the albumen print method. This led him to photograph many famous Americans including several living US Presidents in the 1840s in daguerreotypes. During the American Civil War he hired men to take the photos and he produced and sold the final products.
