One could call them Ser Jacopo’s series of ‘affordable’ pipes, and while this would be correct purely from the standpoint of price, it wouldn’t be entirely fair to them in other regards. Geppetto pipes are hand made from the same high-grade briar as Ser Jacopo pipes, but the former do not use the plateau cuts that the latter does, which are more expensive; Geppetto pipes also tend to be simpler shapes, meaning they do not require the use of the highly technical flexible drilling machinery that Ser Jacopo’s wilder shapes do. I know Ive said it a few times now, but one thing that I particular enjoy about Ser Jacopo’s Mastro Geppetto make is that the workshop uses the latter to explore pipe shapes and styles that don’t fit with the established Ser Jacopo aesthetic. This one is yet another great example, being an Italian pipe whose influences are far more fin de siècle French than anything else, from its smaller proportions, to its paneled Rhodesian bowl, and including a red acrylic stem that is highly reminiscent of Bakelite and other materials used in the pipes of old. This Mastro Geppetto is also completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. It comes with its original sleeve.
