You can also see in the back that he started to do a little bit of a sketch as well. Background on the Artist: This is an absolutely exquisite LARGE original watercolor on pressed paper by legendary Haitian artist Martino Dorce… truth be told? I never imagined that this otherworldly work of art would be leaving our family. However, I am now 80 years old - and faced with a hard reality. I have to downsize… I have to find new homes for that which I love so that when my time here is up - I can rest easy knowing the beautiful treasures I’ve amassed throughout my life are being looked after. My hope is that whoever this piece goes off to, they continue to give that care and admiration this piece had while under my watch. It is truly one of a kind… and it pains me to think of that blank space on the wall once this piece finds its next owner. I take solace, however, in the thought of new eyes being able to gaze upon this spectacular work of art. For those unfamiliar with the artist Martino Dorce, I highly encourage you to do your research. Born in 1943 in Port-au-Prince, a talented Martin Dorce supported himself at the age of 10 by selling his artworks to tourists at the Iron Market. Martino Dorce attended the Ecole Nationale Tertulien Guilbaud primary school and was a student of Joseph Tony "TiTonTon" Moise, who has exhibited worldwide. Dorce has exhibited in his native Haiti and in the US. In 2007, Dorce illustrated the book "De'Monte Love", which tells the true story of a young boy who cares for his siblings and friends after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Now living in California, the Artist is well recognized for his unique style in capturing the beauty of his homeland and it's people. After detailed pen and India ink drawings, he adds layers of rich watercolors until he achieves vividness not usually associated with the medium. The work of Martino Dorce is held in numerous private collections. While you can find Martino Dorce prints on the market, as well as very small originals of basic Dorce sketches - you will NOT find a piece of this scale and caliber on the market. This piece measures (just the actual artwork, excluding the frame) about 30” by 22” - Item Ships out within 1 business day.
